European Sustainable Development Week from 18 September to 8 October 2022 : the Trianon Rive Gauche Paris eco-friendly hotel go into action.
The European Sustainable Development Week
The European Sustainable Development Week is the opportunity to promote the various ecological actions carried out in Europe and to raise public awareness of the ecological transition. Indeed, the European Sustainable Development Week is a French initiative that dates back to 2003 and has been organized throughout Europe since 2015. Its objective is to get the interest of the public in the 17 sustainable development objectives of the 2030 Agenda covering all the issues of sustainable development such as climate, water and energy.
This week of European mobilisation for the planet concerns all individual and collective levels. Indeed, the theme of this 2022 edition of the European Sustainable Development Week is “Act on a daily basis”. The idea is to raise public awareness of the objectives of sustainable development and to ensure the ecological transition in our society so that each citizen integrates sustainable reflexes at his own level, particularly in his small everyday actions.
Sustainable development actions of the Trianon Rive Gauche
Goal 2 – End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
The Trianon Rive Gauche Paris eco-friendly hotel has decided to participate in the second sustainable development goal of the 2030 Agenda by improving nutrition and offering products from sustainable agriculture. Indeed, the Trianon Rive Gauche offers sustainable products to its guests for breakfast which are served in large glass jars. The pastries are 100% pure Isigny butter with a protected designation of origin, the orange juice is fresh pressed, the jams are homemade and the spreads and honey are organically produced.
The honey served at the hotel is Bee Happy Miel, a Parisian honey : long live local consumption ! In addition, the Bee Happy Miel association has an environmental vocation, with sales financing actions in favor of biodiversity.
Goal 7 – Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
With low-energy light bulbs installed in all the bedrooms, the eco-friendly Trianon Rive Gauche Paris hotel is also in line with the seventh sustainable development goal of the Agenda 2030, which is highlighted during the European Sustainable Development Week. To ensure responsible and sustainable energy consumption, the corridors of the Trianon Rive Gauche hotel are equipped with presence detectors.
Goal 12 – Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
The twelfth sustainable development goal of the 2030 Agenda encourages reducing the volume of food waste, reducing waste production and raising awareness of sustainable development.
Indeed, the Trianon Rive Gauche hotel participates in the fight against food waste by joining the anti-waste movement of the Too Good To Go application. Every day, the food not consumed at the hotel’s breakfast is not thrown away : it is sold at a low price to the app’s users.
The Trianon Rive Gauche Paris eco-friendly hotel also offers solutions to reduce waste production. For example, single-use products and over-packaging are limited as much as possible, in compliance with hygiene rules. Also, glass water bottles are available for self-service to reduce plastic. Customers can help themselves to high-quality filtered water from the fountains 24 hours a day.
In the same ecological spirit as the European week of sustainable development, the Trianon Rive Gauche sorts its waste to reduce its waste production. Bio-waste is redistributed and used coffee capsules, as well as light bulbs and batteries, are returned to the shop to be recycled.
Responsible partnerships
The Trianon Rive Gauche reception also offers a sustainable alternative to its customers to hydrate in a more responsible way : the Gobi bottles. These eco-designed water bottles are 100% made in France and reduce the consumption of disposable containers.
The Trianon Rive Gauche eco-friendly Hotel is also committed to raising the awareness of its employees to sustainable development with annual ecological transition training. Speakers from ecological organisations such as Ecolabel, for example, have provided staff with the necessary knowledge on the challenges of sustainable development.
The hotel is also working digitally to reduce its paper consumption. Invoices are sent by email in order to reduce paper photocopying. QR codes are also gradually being integrated into our communication. Favoring digital technology is an action that is in line with the objectives of the Sustainable Development Week, as it helps to limit paper consumption.
Goal 15 – Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss
The sustainable development goal of Agenda 2030 number 15 is to preserve and restore terrestrial ecosystems, to ensure their sustainable use and to manage forests sustainably.
In order to raise awareness among its guests, the Trianon Rive Gauche eco-friendly hotel offers each guest the opportunity to become an actor of change and encourages the ecological transition by participating in eco-responsible actions. Indeed, the hotel works in partnership with Reforest’Action, a partner in the commitment of ecological hotels based in France.
The mission of this partnership is to preserve, restore and create new forests throughout the world in order to respond to the climate emergency and the erosion of biodiversity. The Trianon Rive Gauche therefore offers its guests the opportunity to help plant trees in order to neutralise CO2 emissions during their stay.
When booking on our official website, the customer can choose to participate in the reforestation and regeneration of the French environment by making a donation of 1€. Thus, the customer can enjoy an eco-responsible stay by neutralizing the CO2 emissions of his stay at the Trianon Rive Gauche.
Goal 8 – Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
The eighth sustainable development goal of the 2030 Agenda highlights sustainable tourism. The aim of this goal is to create and implement policies that develop sustainable tourism and enhance local culture and products.
To participate in the development of sustainable tourism, the Trianon Rive Gauche hotel proposes to its guests to adopt an eco-responsible behavior. The World Tourism Organization defines sustainable tourism as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, by meeting the needs of visitors, professionals, the environment and host communities”. The objective of sustainable tourism is to find a balance between the three pillars of sustainable development in the production and implementation of tourism activities.
Sustainable tourism at the Trianon Rive Gauche
To meet the challenges of sustainable tourism, the Trianon Rive Gauche green hotel is committed to environmental preservation. Indeed, the Trianon has been awarded the European Ecolabel and the Green Key label. These two certifications testify to our commitment to green tourism and are a guarantee of our environmental actions.
The Trianon Rive Gauche hotel is also committed to the Paris Tourist Office. Indeed, it is a signatory of the ‘For Sustainable Accommodation in Paris’ programme of the Paris Tourist Office. Since 2012, this charter brings together Parisian hotels that are sensitive to the challenges of sustainable development.
Our commitment demonstrates the willingness of our hotel to promote the values of sustainable development, to reduce its consumption of water, energy and waste, to recover its waste, to make its suppliers and employees aware of sustainable development, to share its ecological values with its guests and to encourage them to participate in the ecological actions proposed during their stay in Paris, and to promote the natural and cultural heritage of the Parisian territory.
Eco-friendly means of transport
The hotel also encourages its guests to move around Paris without polluting by promoting the most ecological means of transport. The hotel’s ideal location allows for quick access to numerous RER, Metro, Bus and Tramway stations throughout Paris, making it possible to travel while reducing one’s carbon footprint.
Also, a Vélib station is located right in front of the hotel. This famous means of public transport rents mechanical bikes (green coloured bikes), and electric bikes (blue coloured bikes) via their mobile application which offers different packages (by the hour, 24h or 3 days pass). To discover the charm of the Parisian streets by bike from our hotel, go to the station n°6029 Vaugirard – Monsieur le Prince where you can pick up and drop off a public bike.
Electric kick scooters are also an eco-friendly means of transport available in Paris that allow you to get around quickly and effortlessly. Lime is the pioneer in the capital and unlike Velib, you can drop your kick scooter off anywhere.
Cityscoot electric scooters are also available for hire, with the first 100 minutes credited in advance. For two people, you can also rent a Renault Zoé electric car or a smaller Twizy car with the Moov’in Paris application.
